Match report by Craig Morning
Last night we went through to play Renfrew at Trinity HS (15 minutes closer to my own house than my 'home court') for our second game of the season. Plenty of excitment before the game started as we got to wear our new strips straight out of the packets!!
1st quarter we started well, good defense which Renfrew took a while to work out how to break down. Some nice plays on offence led to us finishing the quarter up 23:13
2nd quarter and started to fall apart, must have been the new strips making the guys think they were better than we actually were. Renfrew also started to get into a rythmn and started to pass their way through the defense as our effort slipped and gave them the space. Poor shot selection and passing also didn't help. Half time and we led by 1 38:37
Into the 3rd and the effort still hadn't returned and Renfrew had obviously had some time during the interval to talk in more depth about what they were going to do on offense. We decided that the ball was going to be like a hot potato which no-one wanted to touch it. At one point we were down by 10 points in the quarter but a couple of late buckets and a 3 by Bob at the buzzer cut the deficit. End of the 3rd Renfrew are winning 58:54
Final quarter, more focus on smart play at both ends of the court led to us starting to regain control, not without a fight though. We went back to passing and cutting and used our bench to spell the starters long enough for us to stay in the game and keep our heads when the starters returned. End of the game and Renfrew started to try to force things a little more and gave the ball away a few more times than they would have liked but we kept our heads and thanks to Stevie continuing to hit 3s we were able to stop any fight back.
