After 3 cup defeats in the past 2 weeks PSG were at a low and had hoped to do better, considering their great start to the league.
Cumbernauld Chiefs were next up and PSG were looking to get things back on track and keep their unbeaten league record. Cumbernauld were too in form after convincingly beat Storm 1B the previous week and too looking to hold onto their unbeaten league record.
The first quarter was a scrappy affair, with neither side finding any rhythm. PSG had the better chances on offence but still struggled to put the ball in the basket, as was the problem in the previous cup games. Chiefs stayed with PSG and their inability to score with a couple of 3 pointers near the end of the quarter. 15-12 to PSG after the 1st.
The 2nd quarter wasn’t any better and was similar to the 1st. Both sides struggled to run good offences and battled for baskets here and there. 27-24 PSG lead at half time.
PSG came out stronger after the break and upped their defence and managed to get some steals with their press resulting in some easy baskets. Foul trouble for Chiefs didn’t help them with two players fouling out. PSG hit their free throws for a change to extend a lead to double figures. 52-38 after the 3rd.
Chiefs were trailing and decided to press to try and get back into the game. PSG broke the press well and got some nice baskets but gave up too many shots on defence to really pull away from Cumbernauld. Number 13 caused the most problems and drew many fouls keeping the visitors in the game for most of the 4th. After a time out PSG found some composure on offence and saw out the game.
