PSG vStorm 1A Div 1 14/12/09

E-mail Print PDF

Last game of the year for PSG and we were looking to get a W, following the somewhat shock defeat to Troon the previous week.

PSG were missing a couple of players however still had a formidable and deep squad to play in the game. It was a very slow opening quarter, for both teams with alot of scrappy basketball, unforced turnovers and poorly executed offences. Baskets were few and far between for both teams and took a good 3-4 mins before the first points were on the board. The first quarter was tight and finished 11-13 to Storm.

The second quarter was somewhat different, with PSG loosing any form they had gained in the first quarter. Strom took full advantage of this and went on a sizeable run increasing their lead, to 17 points at one point. Things looked bad for PSG, as offence after offence poor shot selections and Storm making their shots put them so far behind. But all of a sudden after a recoup PSG turned on their defence and put the brakes on Storm and used their defence to fuel their offence and ran the break well off turnovers. PSG managed to pull it back but there was still alot of work to be done. 22-31 at the half to Storm.

After half time and a small talk to sort things out PSG came into the 3rd quarter with the momentum of the 2nd quarter and used it to full advantage. The defensive intensity was again PSG's strong point and continued to push them back into the game while Storm had no answer, PSG ended the quarter only 2 points behind. 42-44.

In the 4th quarter PSG didnt give Storm any breathing space and went for it. PSG eventually taking the lead, the first time since the start of the game. Storm were always at their heels and never let up always keeping the pressure on. PSG went up by as many as 8 but a couple of defensive lapses and a disqualifying fouls given against a PSG while a shot had been made, bought Storm right back into the game. PSG however coped well with this pressure and executed some calm and effective offences to keep the lead. Frustration also showed a little bit in Storm who got hit with an unsportsman like foul giving freethrows and possesion to PSG who capitalised and finally saw the game out.

A great game to play in and must have been to watch. PSG showed great resilience after a shocker of a first half and really showed discipline and how well we can play when we work together. Everyone came on and gave 100% on the floor and contributed greatly and impacted on the game insome way. Storm were unlucky after their great start, and the return leg should shape up to be a good one too. Refs called this game well too for both sides.

Some video footage to be added too, when I get it.
